Reflections on President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua: A Good Name, Service, and Legacy
As we step into a new week, I want to share a reflection rooted in service, legacy, and the importance of a good name—values that transcend time and wealth.
On the 12th of July, at the Thisday Dome in Abuja, my team at Alveena Events was finalizing what I would call one of the most exploratory and grand floral art displays we've ever staged. It was a vibrant showcase of colors, creativity, and passion—an expression of the bright and beautiful hues that remind me of the positive influence President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua had on Nigeria.
During this event, I found myself engaged in a friendly chat with Major Musa, the man in charge of security. He is a firm yet friendly and professional gentleman. Jokingly, I told him, “I'm on national duty; all I’m doing here is for my country.” We both shared a laugh, but deep down, I meant every word.
Major Musa responded with a smile, “That’s not quite correct, sir, since you’re paid for your service.” Again, we laughed, but I knew the truth—I was indeed serving my nation, contributing in my own way to its beauty and progress.
Reflecting on this, I am reminded of the profound impact President Yar'Adua had on Nigeria. His leadership touched many lives, and his legacy continues to inspire us all. When I told General Musa that my service was to the nation, I was expressing a sentiment shared by many Nigerians—an unwavering commitment to making our country better, brighter, and more beautiful.
For this particular event, my team and I deliberately outdid ourselves. Some critics called our work chaos because of the myriad of colors, but I prefer to see it as a floral wonderland—a vibrant tapestry that symbolizes the hope, resilience, and dynamism Nigeria embodies. It’s a reflection of the positive changes that leaders like Yar'Adua sought to bring, and a reminder that a good name—built on integrity, service, and love—remains more valuable than all the riches in the world.
May the Almighty God grant President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua eternal rest. And may those of us still living strive to uphold his legacy, learning that a good name is indeed better than gold or silver.
